What the heck is this thing called NOSTR?

NOSTR stands for Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays

So how does it work?

NOSTR is a protocol not a new social media app. This means the user chooses the experience they like most! HUH? Yes you read that right clients will need to design interfaces that compete for your business. So instead of companies forcing their censored interface upon you with only 1 way to login. With NOSTR you have multiple “clients” to login from with your private key. You don’t like a particular client, just find the one you like!

Ok so how can I get an account?

Unlike traditional apps where you need to verify yourself with a phone number or an email address NOSTR allows you to create a random private key (string of letters & numbers) that essentially is your password to login to any “client” interface.

1 - Create a private/public keypair using a nostr client on mobile like damus (apple) or amethyst (android). Can also use desktop clients like astral.ninja or iris.to.

The client will ask you whether you want to create such a key pair, and if you agree, it will create that for you. This is used as a 'self-sovereign' identity in the nostr system.
